About Us

We have an affinity for answering the call to ‘get the word out’ for big and small businesses in a way that makes a lasting impression on the communities we serve. We don’t just want to sell advertising, we want to solve a problem.

Our Story

We’re Problem Solvers

We don’t sell advertising, we solve problems.

Every business has the same problem – it needs customers. Advertising is the answer.

But not just any advertising.

Heather Vreeland knows this because she started her career in advertising as the Director of Marketing in the spa industry. At the time there was nowhere “good” (see also: wide reaching, reliable, and interesting) to advertise their services and promotions and it got her thinking. In 2005, she told Andrew (on their first date) that if time and money were no object, she would make a city magazine. A few years later in Atlanta, though money and time were definitely an object, they persevered and started a magazine anyways and it became one of the leading regional bridal medias in the industry, Occasions Magazine, now known as Atlanta and Chicago Style Weddings. When life brought the Vreelands back to St. Augustine, it also reignited the original idea for a city magazine in St. Augustine and so the Social Magazines concept was created.

People have trusted print media since the invention of paper and story-telling. And what the past 17 years have proven to us is they still do - even after riding a digital media wave, they still prefer print.

Advertising your business is the answer, but only when you advertise with reach, reliability and interest in mind – all things we’re experts at delivering.

You need customers. We deliver. Problem solved.

Meet the Vreelands

Andrew and Heather Vreeland have a way with words. The couple developed the SOCIAL Magazines franchise in 2014 with a revolutionary new way businesses could advertise – with words.

Heather is a writer with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication who uncovered her talent for marketing and sales in her post-college career and Andrew, a graduate of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, is a former Air Traffic Controller conditioned to communicate in the most concise way during his training at the Federal Aviation Administration.

The two agree – everything comes down to communication, especially in marketing.

Together they take their way with words to work everyday at SOCIAL magazines taking the concept of content marketing to the streets in a way that no other direct mail media has done before – in beautifully designed community magazines delivered free to homes.

The Vreelands have been publishing magazines since 2008, and across all their brands, it’s their use of sponsored content that has always made them stand out in a crowded media market. It started first with Occasions Magazine's "Venue Guide" where venue ads were designed like editorials and they carried that format through to St. Augustine Social with themed professional profiles like "Home Experts" and "Top Doctors" in every issue. And now in SOCIAL Magazines, every business can utilize content marketing from a small event feature to a cover story.

17 years later their community magazine concept continues to prove that brands best bond with their target customers by relating to them through stories.  Because of this, SOCIAL Magazines deliver a truly interested audience that every advertiser benefits from.
